Interviewer InstructionsNURSE: IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO, ASK RESPONDENT FOR A SALIVA SAMPLE. READ OUT: I would like to take a sample of saliva (spit). This simply involves dribbling saliva down a straw into a tube/keeping a dental roll in your mouth for a few minutes. The sample will be analysed for cotinine, which is related to the intake of tobacco smoke and is of particular interest to see if non-smokers may have raised levels as a result of 'passive' smoking.
