Interviewer InstructionsSHOWCARD K4 If the respondent finds it difficult to think in terms of distance you can say 'That is a journey of 50 miles or less'. If the respondent works on a train (e.g. train driver, conductor, catering staff) ask them to only consider journeys they make in their own time and not as part of their job.

SamplingMulti-stage stratified random sample
Study TypeRepeated cross-sectional study;monthly (up to year 2000), eight cycles per year (up to April 2005), monthly thereafter. From April 2014, reverted back to eight cycles per year.
