The Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS) was funded to compile this teaching dataset by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC).
The Office for National Statistics, Social Survey Division (ONS) funded the main ONS Opinions Survey, Well-Being Module, April, June, July, August and September 2011 from which this dataset has been compiled. The depositors would like to thank ONS for their permission to repurpose the data.
The dataset was prepared by Necla Acik-Toprak of the Economic and Social Data Service at the Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and Survey Research, University of Manchester.

Abstract copyright UK Data Service and data collection copyright owner.The ONS Opinions Survey, Well-Being Module, April 2011: Unrestricted Access Teaching Dataset is based on the ONS Opinions Survey, Well-Being Module, April, June, July, August and September 2011 (available from the UK Data Archive under SN 6893) and constitutes real data which are used by government, business and other organisations. The teaching dataset is a subset which has been subjected to certain simplifications and additions for the purpose of learning and teaching.
The main differences are:
Well-Being (Module MCZ): this module was originally asked on behalf of ONS and questions ask respondents to rate their well-being on a scale of 0-10, where 0 is generally low and 10 high.

Cross-sectional (one-time) study
The Opinions and Lifestyle Survey is a repeated cross-sectional study but this teaching dataset has been compiled using only data from the April 2011 Well-Being Module.
